It is not surprising that society came in a position of spiritual decline. Many thinkers of different time periods predicted this outcome through the habits humanity was creating.
How did this came to pass?
According to Erich Fromm, it became a burden to carry the spiritual part of man. With the shift towards enlightment and the upcoming authoritarianism, instead of sciences being outsourced, the world turned around and ushered in an era of spiritual respression.
Have you noticed it?
In today's society, praised human endeavours are the ones that are tangible. The soul is disregarded in this sense and therefore existence is bound our physical world.
Looking back in history, science did not have prominent place amongst people. Faith was the source of meaning and therefore the roots of society. Practises outside that of faith were disregarded and even surpressed. Physical manifestions that could not be understood would be the work of the gods even if it was a human being that performed the act. During the age of enlightment, faith was put to the test and the lacking scientifical evidence turned people towards a different direction. A society with it source of meaning in science-based phenomenons.
In this materialistic paradigm, the intangible aspects of our being are often overlooked, relegated to the shadows of our consciousness. Yet, it is in the realm of the soul where the true essence of our humanity resides—a place where emotions, dreams, and connections transcend the confines of the physical. As we navigate this world of concrete achievements, let us not forget the ethereal beauty that lies within, waiting to be acknowledged and embraced.
